For all of our ducks we believe that the most important factor in breeding is a healthy, happy duck. For the Cayuga ducks we are attempting to select our breeders based on friendly ducks that best match the APA standard. For the Ancona duck…That’s complicated. While we wish that a flexible and varied standard with the APA could exist (to read up on how this is possible, look up the Louisiana Catahoula Leapard Cur dog’s awesome history as a breed), we don’t believe at this time that standardizing the breed would be beneficial for the breed because it would disregard much of the breed’s unique traits. So, for the Ancona ducks we try to breed our best ducks and drakes towards Holderread’s standard.
